Simple Recipe: How to Make Soft Idlis with My Natural Idli Rava

Creating those soft, delicious idlis at home is now easier than ever with My Natural Idli Rava!

  1. Soak: Rinse and soak 1 cup Urad Dal (with 1/2 tsp methi seeds if desired) for 4-6 hours. In a separate bowl, soak 2 cups My Natural Idli Rava in enough water for 30-60 minutes, then drain and squeeze out excess water completely.
  2. Grind Dal: Drain the soaked urad dal. Grind it into a very smooth, fluffy batter using a wet grinder or mixer grinder, adding small amounts of chilled water as needed to achieve a light and airy consistency.
  3. Combine & Ferment: Transfer the ground urad dal batter to a large bowl. Add the drained and squeezed Idli Rava and salt to taste. Mix gently but thoroughly. Cover and let it ferment in a warm place for 8-12 hours, or until the batter doubles in volume and becomes airy.
  4. Steam Idlis: Once fermented, gently mix the batter once more. Grease idli moulds with a little oil. Pour the batter into the moulds. Steam in an idli cooker for 10-12 minutes on high flame, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Serve: Let them cool for a minute, then gently de-mould the soft, fluffy idlis. Serve hot with sambar, coconut chutney, or podi!
