Simple Recipe: How to Make a Simple Whole Black Urad Dal (Serves 3-4)
Prepare a comforting and nutritious whole Black Urad Dal with My Natural Black Urad!
- Soak: Rinse 1 cup My Natural Black Urad. Soak in plenty of water for 6-8 hours or overnight.
- Pressure Cook: Drain soaked dal. Pressure cook with 3 cups fresh water, 1/2 tsp turmeric, and salt for 8-10 whistles until very tender and creamy.
- Prepare Tadka: In a separate pan, heat 1.5 tbsp ghee/oil. Add 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, a pinch of asafetida. Sauté chopped ginger, garlic, and green chillies. Add 1 chopped onion, sauté until golden.
- Add Tomatoes & Spices: Add 1 chopped tomato. Cook until soft. Add 1 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tsp red chilli powder, and 1/2 tsp garam masala. Cook for 2 minutes until aromatic.
- Combine & Simmer: Add the cooked Black Urad (with its cooking water) to the tadka. Mix well. Bring to a gentle simmer, mashing some beans for extra creaminess. Cook for 10-15 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
- Garnish & Serve: Garnish with fresh coriander and a dollop of butter or cream (optional). Serve hot with rice, roti, or naan.
